WHO to organise programme on pharma procurement procedures at Copenhagen from Sept 22-25

World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) and United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) are planning to organise a joint programme for pharma and biotech industry at Copenhagen from September 22-25, 2014 in Denmark.

The joint programme is aimed at creating awareness and dissemination of information about the pharma procurement procedures followed by various UN agencies and funded NGOs. All manufacturers  and suppliers of diagnostic products, vaccines, finished pharmaceutical products and active pharmaceutical ingredients are expected to take part in the joint meeting.

The Pharmaceutical Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil) has also been invited for the event and expects all the members of pharma and biotech industry from India to take part in the joint meeting.  “A joint programme with WHO, UNICEF and UNFPA will be held for manufacturers and suppliers of diagnostic products, vaccines, finished pharmaceutical products and active pharmaceutical ingredients at  Copenhagen in  Denmark. The purpose of this meeting is to provide guidance, focusing on quality, that will assist in the process of becoming a supplier of medicines and diagnostics to UNICEF, UNFPA and other international procurement organizations, said Dr  P V Appaji, Director General, Pharmexcil.

According to Dr Appaji, the joint meeting would provide unique opportunity for manufacturers to learn more about the quality requirements used in public procurement and the general procedures applied.  The joint meeting's special focus is being given for market demand, regulatory issues and supply of quality medicines and diagnostics for areas with special interest in products like vaccines, HIV/AIDS, TB, malaria and reproductive & maternal health.
