“Best Pharmacy Teacher Award” for Prof Bhoop

Bhoop.jpgDr  Bhupinder Singh Bhoop, Professor & Chairman, University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Panjab University, Chandigarh, has recently been conferred with coveted “Bharathi Vidhyapeeth Best Pharmacy Teacher Award – 2014” instituted by Association of Pharmacy Teachers of India (APTI), Bangaluru, in recognition of his unparalleled contributions to pharmaceutical education, research and profession, especially in the domain of developing novel and nanostructured drug delivery systems using Quality by Design (QbD, Advanced Pharmacokinetic modeling and in vitro/in vivo correlations (IVIVC).

Professor Bhoop received this award during the inaugural function of 19th Annual National Convention of Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India (APTI), held at Pune, on November 28-24, 2014, from Prof B. Suresh (President, PCI, India), Dr Mahesh D. Burande (President, APTI, Bengaluru), Prof C. K Kokate (Vice Chancellor, KLE University, Belgaum), and Prof Shivajirao Kadam (Bharti Vidyapeeth, Pune).

The “Best Pharmacy Teacher of Year Award” is considered as one of the most prestigious awards in Indian pharma, which is awarded every year by APTI to the fellow teachers, researchers and scientists for their exemplary contribution towards pharma profession in the national and global scenario.

Professor Bhoop, a senior faculty member with a rich teaching and research experience of over 33 years, has published 215 publications in peer-reviewed national and international journals along with 9 books and 45 book chapters to his credit. He has been instrumental in filing three patents and transfer of two nanostructured drug delivery technologies for commercial applications to different pharmaceutical industries. He has duly trained several hundreds of industrial scientists under his guidance, esp. on QbD via conferences, onsite training seminars & workshops. This award is a sequel to numerous national & global awards and accolades already conferred on him. He has handled 15 research projects and guided/guiding 24 Ph.D's, three post-doctorates and over 50 M.Pharm scholars.

Besides being the Chairman of University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Professor Bhoop is the Co-ordinator of UGC Centre of Advanced Studies (CAS) in Pharmaceutical Sciences. Since 2011, he has also been serving as the Founder, Co-ordinator of Interdisciplinary UGC Centre for Excellence in Nano Biomedical Applications. He has also been the Dean, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences (2011-13) and Dean Alumni Relations (2007-2011), Panjab University, Chandigarh. On the basis of his exemplary accomplishments, he has been nominated by Vice President of India, Hamid Ansari to the PU Senate as the Fellow of Panjab University from 2012-2016. Since December 2013, he has been elected unopposed to the highest temporal body, PU Syndicate too.
