A two-day workshop at Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) titled 'ENDOLIVE 2014' stressed on continuous adoption of new and emerging technology by medical practitioners in the country.

Particularly focused on gastroenterology, the two day work shop helped doctors, nurses and technicians learn and understand the importance of technology in the medical stream. The workshop showcased many innovative medical devices like spy glass, endoscopic ultra sound and laser lithotripsy. Major technological highlights of the workshop were 'Spy Glass Endoscopy and Miniature scanners.

Not just showcased advanced medical technology and its importance in the present world, the speakers at the workshop also stressed on adoption of new and emerging technology in medical stream and called for evolving effective treatment methodologies for various diseases. "Particularly medical practitioners need to keep pace with the rapid strides in the field of endoscopy. Doctors need to continuously learn and explore the modern technology and accessories emerging in the medical stream," opined Dr Nageshwar Reddy from Asian Institute of Gastroenterology.

Commenting on the workshop, Dr Nagarjuna Yarlagadda, Consultant Gastroenterologist at KIMS and chairman of the Organizing Committee said, “Many innovations like Spy Glass, Endoscopic ultra sound and Laser lithotripsy help us in treating the most difficult cases in the field of hepatobiliary and pancreatic diseases in a minimally invasive approach. To run a successful endoscopy procedure, it is important that practitioners and support staff are hands on with the latest developments in the field. We at KIMS always strive to ensure the highest quality of medical care and services. As part of the workshop we impart hands-on training not just to the physicians and surgeons, but also to the support nursing staff through LIVE demonstration of endoscopic procedures like deployment of metal stents etc.”

The workshop showcased path-breaking techniques in endoscopy procedures and minimally invasive endoscopic treatment methods. It also focused on cleaning, disinfection and proper maintenance of endoscopes in addition to, live demonstration of endoscopic procedures. It also helped young doctors, nurses and technicians to have hands on experience with deployment of hemoclips and esophageal stents.

Many renowned specialists including Dr Nageshwar Reddy of the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology, Dr Palani Swamy from Chennai, Dr Jagan mohan Reddy from Canada, Dr Vikram Bhatia from New Delhi and Dr Roy Mukkada from Kochi took part and apprised the doctors for adapting latest developments in the field of endoscopy.
