'Manipal Cure & Care' for health and wellness launched at Ahmedabad

Manipal Cure & Care, an initiative of Manipal Education and Medical Group (MEMG), has opened its maiden outlet for health and wellness at the Himalaya Mall in Ahmedabad. The facility was inaugurated by Dr Ramdas Pai, Group Chairman MEMG.

The integrated Manipal Cure and Care will offer a mix of services in preventive, wellness and beauty care and such a model is a first-of-its-kind in the country. It will have a well-stocked in-house pharmacy, health insurance product and other innovative products including nutraceuticals. It also will introduce its own generic brands soon.

The centre will have a specialists in General Medicine, Obstetrics and gynaecology, Paediatrics, Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Dentistry, Endocrinology and Lab Medicine among others. The service has adhered to the Australian Council of Healthcare Standards International.

Among the unique offerings by Cure and Care are A-M-P-L-E Card (Allergies, Medical History, Past History, List of Medication, Emergency Number), EMR (Electronic Medical Record), Integration of CIMS (Cumulative Index of Medical Specialties - pharmaceutical drug interaction alert) with EMR, Customer Charter, error proofing methodology and single episode of care in less than 45 min to name a few.

On the Preventive front, Manipal Cure and Care will have 'Xpress Care' which will cater to the needs of busy professionals and walk-in customers. The services include Health Checks and walk-in flexi checks like diabetic care, liver care, HIV screening, Lung care, hepa care and drug abuse. Women and Children can avail innovative and ultra-modern Health Checks, augmented by Well Baby and Well Woman care.

Wellness services include immunizations, antenatal care, baby care, adolescent care, eye care, hormonal management, dietary counselling and sexual health advice, specialized dietary and obesity counselling.

Wellness and preventive medicine is expected to exceed 1 trillion US$ by 2010 worldwide and is yet to be seriously looked at in India. The Manipal Cure and Care Health and Wellness Centres will be established in two different formats across Malls, Mega-cites, Health cities and High streets with a focus on customers who are hard pressed for time.

According to Dr Ranjan Pai, Group CEO, Manipal Education and Medical Group, said, "Retailing is taking off in India and we feel that there is a huge space in the wellness, preventive and beauty and cosmetic care in this format. We plan to integrate our skills in healthcare to ride the wave of this boom. We plan to open 50 own centres in the next four year and will later explore joining hands with like minded people for franchising."

Manipal Cure and Care was formed in January this year with a seed capital of Rs 50 crore. The concept was planned and is being implemented in 6 months. The next centre will be launched in Bangalore coming month. About 10 centres in cities like NCR, Mumbai, Pune and Hyderabad will be functional by end of this fiscal.
