The Ahmedabad-based Skyquest Technology Consulting Pvt Ltd, a global technology aggregator and accelerator working in the areas of life sciences and green technologies, in collaboration with the New Delhi-based Foundation for MSME Clusters is planning to hold a technology transfer meet in Ahmedabad to connect innovators and the industry for mutual growth through commercialisation of the research outcomes. The event, “Tech Transfer 2010” is scheduled to be held on August 28, 2010 at PERD Centre in Ahmedabad.

The event is part of a project, Promoting Innovative Clusters (PIC), funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Govt of India and executed by the Foundation of MSME Clusters, a New Delhi based NGO specializing in cluster development. In the meet, the organisers are targeting to showcase almost 100 technologies, majority of them from the lifesciences segment including pharmaceuticals, medical devices and biotechnology, according to Skyquest management.

Skyquest is assigned by the foundation for scouting, identifying and evaluating various innovations in the life science sector from public, private and academic R&D organizations for technology transfer. Though open for industries across the spectrum, the event is aimed to promote commercialisation of innovations through small and medium life sciences firms.

“We have collected around 85 technologies till date, of which majority are from the life science sector. Apart from coordinating with the innovators and arranging the event, we could also suggest the various modalities of deals which could be beneficial for both the parties,” said Shriya Damani, co-founder and chief executive officer, Skyquest Technology Group. Around 50 companies are expected to participate in the event, mostly from the fast growing lifescience sector of Gujarat, in the initial stage, she added.

The organisers expect to showcase institutions, researchers and technologies and improve access to relevant stakeholders, collaborators and investors and to promote and operationalise innovation or technology based business opportunities for small and medium enterprises in India. Such events would open new avenues for international collaborations, licensing and commercialization deals and to develop capacities of institutions to monetize their R&D outcomes and accelerate their innovations to market, hopes the organisers.

The company, which has recently supported the Consulate of Israel in India to conduct a business meet of medical devices firms in Israel and India in Mumbai, is also planning to coordinate a meeting of biopharmaceutical firms from both the countries in Bio India 2010 to be hosted at Hyderabad from September 21 -22, 2010.
