The CSIR organized 1st Nutraceutical Summit is scheduled to be held in Mumbai from 8 to 10th October 2003, at Mumbai. Announcing the first ever summit on nutraceuticals in the country, Dr V Prakash, director, Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), said that nutraceuticals is one of the fastest growing segment in today’s industry, but at the same time, there is a tremendous shortage of the understanding of their functionality and the potential in it. Thus the importance of this Summit in the country at present is paramount.
He said, “A very rough estimate of the market is racing towards 60 billion US Dollars growing at a rapid rate. Hence the nutraceuticals revolution demands a very close look in terms of what has happened, what is happening and what must happen in the future.” This is important not only consolidate the information available but also to reflect what should be the focus of the industry, how big is the industry and what does the consumer expect from this important area. With our rich heritage of over 3000 years and tremendous bio-diversity, India certainly has an edge in the field, he added.
The 1st Nutraceutical Summit is intended to build awareness, explore the business opportunities to identify the roadblocks and brainstorm upon ways and means to overcome them, through the Seminar and the B-to-B Expo. The chief patron of the Summit is R A Mashelkar, director general, CSIR.
