With a changing lifestyle of the Indian women and faced with more challenges than the countries in the other parts of the world, today’s new age woman requires to be more physically and mentally fit than before.
Arthritis is one of the disease which is very common in female population. 60per cent of all people who have arthritis are female. The term arthritis means joint pain associated with swelling. It includes more than 100 diseases and conditions affecting joints. There are a lot of genetic, environmental and other factors like which makes an individual prone to arthritis. It triggers changes in immune system which in turn affect joint and cause arthritis which leads to joint damage and complicate the lifestyle. It is a myth that arthritis is a disease of old age. It can happen at any age even during childhood. Females can develop arthritis even when they are in their thirties.
Few of the common form of arthritis are rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, lupus, fibromyalgia, chronic low back pain Ankylosing spondylitis arthritis and gout juvenile (childhood arthritis). Indian Rheumatology Association (IRA) deals with arthritis, autoimmune diseases, musculoskeletal pain disorders and osteoporosis in India. It spearheads the fight against various forms of arthritis by the applications of rheumatology. Arthritis happens through normal wear and tear of cartilage tissues causing infection or injury to the joints. People need to be more careful as it occurs to almost all groups.
Dr. Atul Gattani, Rheumatologist at Sterling Wockhardt Hospital Vashi said "People suffering from arthritis need to take extreme care of them and avoid stretching of their joints and ligaments. Regardless of the type of arthritis, the common symptoms for all arthritis disorders include varied levels of pain, swelling, joint stiffness and sometimes a constant ache around the joints. One out of every eight men and one out of every four women are prone to symptoms of arthritis."
He added further by saying that "Until about age 30, a person normally builds more bone than he or she loses. After age 35, bone breakdown outpaces bone buildup, resulting in a gradual loss of bone mass. Women need to take more precautions than men as their muscles and ligaments in joints are smaller and tend to shrink even more increasing the risk of injuries. Arthritis pain and immune system are related. Inflammation and arthritis pain can trigger an autoimmune response from the body that's meant to help heal the damage, but it may temporarily worsen the symptoms. The immune system can trigger autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis for an unknown reason, causing lasting damage to good cells in your body. People should be aware about the joint related problems and should take quick action and get a proper diagnosis and treatment as early as possible to avoid damage and disability.”
