A clarification from Lalit Kumar Jain about his expulsion from SPIC
Friday, May 14, 2010, 08:00 Hrs  [IST]

Following a story titled ``SPIC to offer low cost technology to members making formulations free of cost'' (April 20, 2010), in which SPIC general secretary claimed that the governing body of the organisation had unanimously expelled its senior vice-chairman Lalit Kumar Jain for the ``embezzlement of SPIC property and anti-SPIC activities" (para 5).

Lalit Kumar Jain issued a clarification on this:
``I was shocked to read the baseless allegations of one person. in your reputed trade publication. I was one of the founding members of the SPIC (SME Pharma Industries Confederation) and have been instrumental greatly in ensuring the rights of the SME sector in my capacity as its senior vice-chairman. I came to know of my expulsion only through the press report. I am yet to get any official letter about the same or any show cause notice from the governing council about the charges against me. Before taking any action it is required to issue a letter or a notice as per the constitution of the organisation.

I want to categorically clarify that SME Pharma Industries Confederation is an independent organisation and has no connection or relation with the SME Pharma Industries Core Society, for which all members were asked to pay the subscription in the name of "SME pharma Industries Core Society" instead of SPIC to which I objected. I never handled any money or assets of SME Pharma Industries Confederation at any time and all financial matters are handled by the Treasurer along with the Chairman or the Secretary General. The baseless charges by SPIC secretary general proporting to a unanimous decision on my expulsion for embezzlement of SPIC property and anti -PIC activities have caused immense damage to me personally and professionally against which I have already initiated legal proceedings. Chairman, Treasurer and the secretary general are the authorized personnel to handle the finances and in any capacity, it was out of question that I could handle it. It would have been better that before making such baseless allegations, the concerned persons should have divulged the evidences to the Press and the aggrieved party.''
