Abaxis Inc, a medical products company manufacturing point-of-care blood analysis systems, announced the release of the new Prep Profile II and the Large Animal Profile.

"With the addition of Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP), the Prep Profile II now provides the veterinarian a 6-chemistry panel for pre-surgical screening," said Michael Mercer, Abaxis' Vice President of Marketing and Sales. "This panel now offers all of the clinics who recently have traded in their Idexx VetTest or who are considering a trade, the same combination of tests, in an easier-to-use, faster and less expensive product platform. The Large Animal Profile, which includes two newly developed assays, phosphorus and magnesium, is specifically designed for the bovine practitioner. The portability of the VetScan is uniquely suited for the in-field needs of these veterinarians. Introducing two new analytes, phosphorus and magnesium, serves as a further example of the continued investment by Abaxis toward meeting the needs of the veterinary profession."

Abaxis develops, manufactures and markets portable blood chemistry analyzers for use in any patient-care setting to provide clinicians with rapid blood constituent measurements. The system consists of a compact, 6.9 kilogram, portable analyzer and a series of 8 cm diameter single-use plastic disks, called reagent discs that contain all the reagents necessary to perform a fixed menu of tests.

The system can be operated with minimal training and perform multiple tests on whole blood using either venous or finger stick samples. The system provides test results in less than 14 minutes with the precision and accuracy equivalent to a clinical laboratory.
