AIDCOC to oppose centralization of drug licensing

All India Drugs Control Officers' Confederation (AIDCOC), which held its Executive Committee meeting at Visakhapatnam on last Saturday has decided to take up various initiatives in the coming days, according to the top officials at AIDCOC.

The Committee announced that it will appraise and oppose the centralization policy of licensing suggested by Dr Mashelkar Committee with the Union Health Minister and will also ask the Minister to take necessary steps in strengthening the Drugs Control Organisations all over the country.

AIDCOC is also to submit a representation to the Union Government and the State Government to change the designation of drugs inspector to 'Drugs Control Officer'.

The Confederation is also to erect hoardings in all the major cities to educate people with regard to the usage of drugs and precautions to be taken.

It has decided to conduct a 'National Convention' on October 9 and 10, 2004 at New Delhi. It is also looking at the possibility of hosting the Indian Pharmaceutical Congress- 2005, the sources informed.
