Anti-counterfeiting summit lists steps for curbing counterfeits

Counterfeiting being a wide-spread issue across various industries, it all finally boils down to how companies can create awareness among consumers on understanding benefits of original products and hazards of the counterfeits, according to experts at the Anti-Counterfeiting and Brand Protection Summit 2018 organized by Inventicon to discuss latest trends, challenges and issues faced by organisations to fight counterfeiting in India.

More than 130 brand protection and legal specialists gathered under one roof at the summit which offered excellent opportunity to share experiences, case studies, network with industry leaders and learn about the current and innovative practices in the industry to curb counterfeiting and protect your brand. There were discussions on the recent legal developments, how to carry out risk profiling, role of effective packaging, supply chain authentication and latest technologies and solutions.

Post the opening remarks by Pramod Krishna, director general at CIABC (Confederation of Indian Alcoholic Beverage Companies), Capt. Sakhil Ahmed, head brand protection at Diageo India delivered the key note address on aspects and challenges of brand protection in India along with new and creative techniques to protect the brand. His incisive words set the right energy for the first session of the day by Sunil Kumar, Deputy Commissioner at IRS (Customs and CGST) who shared his insights on the role of customs to prevent counterfeited goods to make way across borders. Among the issues addressed, Gaurav Mediratta, General Manager Legal at Hindustan Unilever Limited discussed on working closely with law enforcement authorities to bring fraudsters to task.

Day two of the summit commenced with Microsoft’s Senior Attorney Manager, India Region IP& DCU Lead, Meenu Chandra. She enticed the audience with her view on counterfeiting, data theft, cybercrimes - modern day conundrums. Bejon Kumar Misra, international consumer policy expert and founder of safe medicines stepped in to help understand the importance of educating the consumers. The day also comprised of a case study on brand protection for the Manufacturing Sector conducted by Gopal P. Choudhary, Chief Security & Brand Protection, Tata Steel Limited.
