The officials of drug control department in Andhra Pradesh have seized 200 bottles of banned Oxytocin drug from a man named Muktha Rahul and have arrested him for selling the drug to dairy farms in and around Hyderabad.

On receiving a tip off, the officials raided a house in Bharatnagar in Madannapet and seized about 200 bottles of banned drug Oxytocin.

According to sources, each of the seized bottles contained 100 ml Oxytocin drug and it is used for injecting into cattle to boost milk production and for use in farms to increase the size of vegetables and fruits, which is illegal.  Experts say that milk of a cow injected with Oxytocin will create hormonal imbalance in kids and hamper the growth and it even may harm healthy organs.

In fact earlier, the central government had banned this drug because of its various adverse side effects. Giving details on who can sell this drug the officials said, “Under Schedule H of the drugs and cosmetic rules, 1954, the drug can be sold only as per the prescription of a registered medical practitioner. Other than this any body found selling or buying the drug for other purposes is illegal and will receive penal action as per the law.”

Even in an earlier case, the drug officials had arrested another person named Ch. Damodar Yadav, who was also using the banned drug for injecting into cattle for higher yield of milk.  In fact this guy was operating a racket of selling adulterated milk, where in he would use one kilo of milk powder and prepare nine liters of milk and add one liter of original milk. Further he would add 15ml of hydrogen peroxide to get foam leather on the milk to make it look original milk, informed the official sources.

Having learned about the increase use of Oxytocin in packed milk, the drug control department has become alert and are conducting frequent raids on the suspected persons. In this context, the officials have raided Rahul’s house in Madannapet and have arrested and booked a case against him along with seizing 200 bottles of Oxytocin.

The  officials are investigating the case in detail and have also launched a hunt for the manufacturer. The officials are suspecting that there is an illegal nexus going on between drug manufacturers and some firms located surrounding the Hyderabad city.  It is also revealed that these manufacturers take labs on rent and evade enforcement agencies.
