Apollo Hospitals hold first Shoulder Surgery Course

The Chennai based Apollo Hospitals group conducted the first Apollo Shoulder Surgery Course 2004 to inform surgeons in the country on the latest developments in the science of shoulder surgery, an emerging sub-specialty of orthopaedics.

Held at the Chennai Apollo Centre recently, the one day workshop gave the delegates a comprehensive understanding of shoulder pathologies, their treatment and rehabilitation, said sources.

Dr Peter Campbell, the world-renowned shoulder surgeon practicing at Western Australian Orthopedics, Perth, Australia, along with Dr Ashish Babhulkar, shoulder surgeon from Pune and Dr Vijay C Bose, consultant Orthopaedics Surgeon of Apollo Specialty Hospitals, Chennai led the workshop, which included live demonstration of conventional open surgery and modern keyhole arthroscopic shoulder surgery.

Dr Peter Campbell, who has performed shoulder surgery on many famous Australian sports personalities, felt the workshop acted as a platform for surgeons to understand and gain knowledge of the simple treatments available for shoulder problems.

Dr Vijay C Bose said that rapid strides have been made in the understanding and treatment of shoulder disorders along with innumerable product developments, worldwide. This course was to provide an opportunity to the surgeons to update themselves with the developments and interact with renowned surgeons for specific queries.

The sources said Apollo plans to make the shoulder surgery course an annual event so that reputed shoulder surgeons from across the world meet to share knowledge and information on the developments in this latest sub-specialty in orthopaedics.
