Apollo Hospitals - Hyderguda to host 2-day live CACTO summit in Hyderabad from today

Apollo Hospitals – Hyderguda is hosting the 3rd Live CACTO (Complex Angioplasty & Chronic Total Occlusion) SUMMIT 2012 today and tomorrow (July 21 & 22) at Hotel Taj Viventa, Hyderabad. The summit will be inaugurated by Kondru Murali Mohan, Minister for Medical Education, Government of Andhra Pradesh and Shobana Kamineni, executive director, Apollo Hospitals Group.

The Summit will demonstrate treatment for Chronic Total Occlusions (CTO) and other complex cases. CTOS are heart blocks, which completely block the artery space and have been existing for several months or years, says Dr V Surya Prakasa Rao, HOD-Cardiology, Apollo Hospitals, Hyderguda. Dr Rao further added, “Also blocks at main junction points- left main blocks. They need surgery until now, with this new techniques we can do angioplasty i.e., treat with drug eluting stents and avoid surgery.”

According to Dr P L N Kapardhi, director - Cathlab Services, Apollo Hospitals, Hyderguda, CACTO-2012 will have several eminent international and national faculty members including Prof. A R Galassi (Italy), Dr M Yamane, Dr E Tsuchikane (Japan), Dr Kenya Nasu (Japan) and Dr Rajesh Dave (USA) as faculty.

CACTO -2012 will also have live transmission of complex procedures from USA, Japan and other centres from India apart from Apollo Hospital, Hyderguda.

Several new imaging modalities like OCT, IVUS and FFR will be demonstrated live and discussed about. OCT and IVUS will have infrared and ultrasound fitted to small two to three mm sized (minute) catheters to take photographs from small blood vessels of heart and will guide the opertoter during procedure. For the budding interventional cardiologist apart from the rich knowledge and experience shared by the faculty, simulators will be available to give hands on experience. There will be an opportunity for CD presentation on a challenging case to a panel of experts.
