Appasamy Hospital, a subsidiary of Chennai based Appasamy Associates, is on expansion drive. The hospital plans to set up a diabetes clinic and laparoscopy unit focusing on patient care under a cost effective package.

The hospital will introduce its diabetic clinic in May 2006 to offer a comprehensive diabetic and eye care facility in future. The clinic, at an investment of Rs 20 lakh, will transfer its functions to a new block, in the Out Patient Division coming up in Chennai. The new OPD in 6000 sq. ft. area, with an investment of Rs 2 crore will be ready to operate by end of 2007.

"We are planning to introduce round the year check up facility for the diabetes care, by offering check ups once in every three months for a reasonable cost. The facility is in such a way that cutting cost of treatment will not affect the quality of service," Dr K Rengasamy, Director, Appasamy Hospital told Pharmabiz.

The hospital is offering special care for women and children through various cost cutting schemes. Appasamy Hospitals recently inaugurated their health care wing exclusively for women and children. The Centre for Women and Child Health Care, a recently started wing ensures the availability of high- tech medical facility for the general public. It has also plans to extend its maternity healthcare scheme to the complicated delivery cases, within a short period.

"The unit provides 24 hours maternity care and paediatric care and treatment for emergencies, related to conception and child birth, thereby reducing complications and risks in the case of new born and vulnerable mothers," added Rengasamy.

Appasamy Hospital has completed setting up infrastructure for a laparoscopy unit, at Chennai. The facility including a 40 litres insufflator and three-chip camera system, with an investment of Rs 12 lakh, is ready to start operation and will be inaugurated by within a month's time. The company also carries talks with two of the major laboratories from Hyderabad for joint venture in conducting laboratory tests.

The Health care unit was started by Appasamy Associates in 2000 with the motto of "Quality Care at Affordable Charges".
