Mobile 1000, flagship programme of Wockhardt Foundation makes a century by launch of its 100th van. Wockhardt Foundation, a not-for-profit organization which engages in social service and human welfare activities, seeks to provide rural primary healthcare to the villages of India through Mobile 1000 healthcare vans.

India faces daunting challenges in the field of healthcare. Recognizing this, Sir Dr. Huz (Huzaifa Khorakiwala), chief executive officer, Trustee, Wockhardt Foundation pioneered Mobile 1000 program helping bridge the gaps in the delivery of healthcare services to rural India. With all efforts and success of 99 healthcare vans, the 100th Mobile 1000 van was launched in Uttarakhand today, in partnership with the Hans Foundation. The Wockhardt Foundation Mobile 1000 healthcare vans are providing healthcare services to rural areas across India in states like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Odisha, Punjab, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh etc.

Launched in 2007, Wockhardt Foundation’s ISO 9001:2015 approved Mobile 1000 programme has been successfully administering high quality, free, primary healthcare services to approximately 2,000 villages across 18 states of India, each van servicing atleast 25,000 people per year. Since the inception of the programme, 175.16 lakh people have been treated and directly benefitted through the services of the Mobile 1000 vans. Between April to December 2016 alone, 14.63 lakh have been checked and directly benefitted.

Sir Dr. Huz conveyed himself on the occasion saying, “Basic healthcare treatment is a right of every individual. I am glad that our Mobile 1000 healthcare vans are providing healthcare services to the unprivileged and rural areas, sufficing basic healthcare needs. Going forward, the programme envisages enhanced outreach and service delivery to needy section of the society.”

The Mobile 1000 health van equipped with a GPS tracking system and consisting of one doctor, one pharmacist and one driver travels across villages conducting free OPD/health screening for rural people and providing free basic health services. They work towards creating awareness in rural areas on sanitation, hygiene, mother and child healthcare, safe drinking water, immunization, anemia, de-worming, vector-borne diseases, HIV, snake-bites, diabetes and tuberculosis. This is followed up with diagnosis and treatment. Specific cases requiring specialty care are referred to specialists. Also IEC (Information, Education & Communication) material relevant to the health awareness is distributed in the regional language to the people.
