Arvind Remedies Limited, one among the leading Chennai based formulation manufacturers, has registered Rs.2.50 crore net profit during the quarter ended June, a 106 per cent increase when compared to the previous year period net profit of Rs.1.21 crore. Operational income also has registered a jump of 38.87 per cent, at Rs.36.95 crore, in comparison to the Rs.26.60 crore during the previous period, said a company release.

According to Arvind Shah, CEO and managing director of Arvind Remedies, the better performance is mainly due to the encouraging response to the herbal range of products, especially Pankare, an anti-diabetic drug and Sorexil for bedsores and ulcers. The herbal drugs would contribute significantly to the overall revenues for ARL in the coming months, as ARL is in the process of entering the developed countries with its herbal drugs.

Further, Arvind Remedies has three products under development, now under the clinical trials in the areas of Cardiology, Nephrology and Dermatology, said Arvindh Shah.

Company sources said the Rs.120 crore odd ARL’s manufacturing unit at Kakkalur in Tamilnadu recently had ISO 9002 certificate by BVQI, UK. The company has already filed patents for some of its herbal formulations, and is targeting developed markets like the US and UK, besides the domestic market.

ARL would also concentrate on contract manufacturing for generics and branded products for other companies. At present contract manufacturing contributes about 20 percent of the company turnover, and the clients include some leading names in the industry.

ARL is also concentrating on developing drug delivery systems in the ethical market in areas like Cardiovascular, CNS and Gastro entities. In the Ayurvedic segment, the company is concentrating on therapy areas such as arthritis, CNS, nephrology and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases (COPD).

Its generics division’s recent drugs like SU2, an anti-cold tablet, PainwinP pain killer and Amolox antibiotic, besides the herbal division’s Soulfat, a cholesterol and weight reduction drug, also contributed significantly to the growth of the company, said sources.
