Aurobindo Pharma Ltd has received US FDA approval for its cefpodoxime proxetil tablets in the strengths of 100mg and 200mg. This is the 7th cephalosporin approval for the company. With this, the company consolidates itself further in cephalosporin market. Cefpodoxime is the generic version of Pharmacia Upjohn's Vantin.

Cefpodoxime Proxetil is mostly used to treat acute otitis media, community acquired pneumoniae, uncomplicated urinary tract infections and also skin infections.

The company is the proven leader in this segment / product range in several markets in the world. This would be a niche opportunity for the company as there are limited numbers of players in the segment.

US FDA has also confirmed its approval for Cefpodoxime proxetil for oral suspension in the strengths of 50mg/5ml and 100mg/5ml.
