Arya Vaidya Pharmacy (Coimbatore) Ltd (AVP) would be studying the feasibility of launching its entire range of products in Pakistan. The company will also be undertaking inspection of infrastructure facilities in that country before setting up the proposed Ayurveda treatment centre.

Initially AVP will be setting up Ayurvedic treatment centre and clinics in Pakistan to gain confidence of the people of Pakistan regarding ayurvedic treatment. In the second phase, shops selling ayurvedic drugs may be set up in Pakistan. "Initially we have to make the system popular in their country by treating the patients and instilling confidence in their minds about the efficacy of ayurveda. Our focus will not be on marketing now. But in the second phase that will start by setting up retail stores. "P R Krishnakumar, managing director, AVP told Pharmabiz.

For inspecting the infrastructure and the building in which the proposed ayurveda centre would be set up ,a three-member team from AVP would be leaving anytime after November 200 once they receive the visas. The response is still awaited from Islamabad.

Speaking about the issue to Pharmabiz, Dr Prasad, AVP's Assistant director for administration and operations said the delegation from AVP during its three-day visit will be meeting the Pakistani government, National and local health department and the management of MWT. The team will be inspecting the infrastructure and will make a presentation to the Ministry about the demand and globalisation of ayurveda. They will also hold talks with the management about the utilization of funds and infrastructure.

"We are keen about the outcome of talks as we want to set up authentic and authorized Ayurveda centres and clinics in Pakistan. We are also looking forward to market our entire 400 products in their country," he said.

As Pharma biz had earlier reported, the ayurveda treatment centre proposed to be set up in Pakistan by AVP in collaboration with the Karachi based Mehrunnisa Welfare Trust, would be the first recognised Ayurveda hospital in Pakistan.

The Mehrunnisa Welfare Trust has submitted an application to the Pakistan government seeking clearance for Ayurveda systems of medicine to be introduced in that country.

The new venture is envisaged to create awareness on Ayurveda in Pakistan and at a later stage, will start Ayurvedic drug production and an Ayurvedic educational institution in Pakistan.
