The Department of Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) is planning to set up the country's first national facility for research and treatment through Indian systems of medicine. A prestigious venture of the Central Government, the National Ayurvedic Hospital being set up at Sarita Vihar, New Delhi is fully funded by the Department of Ayush of under the union ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The multi specialty hospital would offer quality patient care, and would function as a postgraduate teaching and research centre. Being planned as a centre of excellence it would function as the model collaborative research centre for alternate medicines. The foundation stone for the centre was laid early this year on the land allotted by the ministry of urban development & poverty alleviation and the Delhi Development Authority (DDA).
This is to be the biggest state-of-the art of hospital having facilities for specialized treatment in Ayurveda in Delhi. The hospital has been planned to offer facilities for Panchakarma therapy (for neuro-muscular disorders), Rasayana therapy (for healthy aging), Kayakalpa (complete overhauling and rejuvenation therapy), Vajikaran (fertility clinic), Kshar-Sutra therapy, Non-hormonal Ayurvedic therapy for women's disorders and other clinics in areas where Ayurvedic approaches have a strength.
The hospital would come up in natural surroundings with medicinal plants supported by a mini-pharmacy. In the first phase, there will be a well-equipped hospital and subsequently it will have post-graduate teaching and research facilities for various specialties of Ayurveda. The Department of AYUSH has already allocated funds for the hospital in the current financial year.
