Bangalore Bio 2006: Bigger and better biotech show

The biotech exposition Bangalore Bio is all set to take off on June 7. The 3-day expo to be held between June 7 and 9, 2006 will attract over 60 national and international speakers, 350 conference delegates, 120 exhibitors, 20,000 business visitors from over 15 countries and various states of India.

The premier annual event for the biotechnology industry is the biggest biotech show in the Asia-Pac region. The event, now in its sixth edition, will be simultaneously a conference, a business forum and a trade exhibition for the entire biotech and allied industry will be held at the Palace grounds in Bangalore.

This flagship biotech event is promoted by the Government of Karnataka and organized by the Vision Group on Biotechnology. Bangalore Bio has emerged as the undisputed unique platform for the biotech fraternity to leverage partnering opportunities and forge new alliances in the Biotech industry globally. This exciting forum presents a platform to showcase their products & services, transform concepts into markets and explore investment.

The focal theme for Bangalore Bio 2006 is DNA-Discover, Nurture, Accelerate.

The event this year includes a strong International participation from the European Union, Holland, France, UK, Germany, Japan, Belgium, Bavaria, Pennsylvania, and Singapore. Domestic participation from various State Governments including Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh has been confirmed so far.

The event will comprise of an International conference :which will focus on leveraging the global market to extend clinical trials reach and research process outsourcing, vaccines and vaccinology, drug discovery and development: Navigating the drug development life cycle from bench to bedside, Frontier Technologies: Bio-nanotechnology Genomics and Proteomics, Stem Cell, Theranostics- therapeutics & diagnostics, Intellectual Property Rights, Cross Border Regulatory Issues, Bio diversity conservation, Patenting, Biotechnology and Global Alliances, Country presentations, Portfolio Management: Shaping the future of the investment landscape in the Biotech industry, Bio Informatics: Data management and Exclusivity, Human Resource Development: Career development and industry-academia partnerships/human resource issues facing the industry building the talent pool.

The session for the day will highlight the recent advances in molecular genetics, informatics, and genomics research have created many new possibilities for applying biotechnology in agriculture apart from addressing issues such as the Transgenic crops and Agri Biotechnology; Functional Foods and Nutraceuticals; Bio energy and Bio Fuels; Bio Fertilizers and Bio Pesticides; IPR, Safety and Regulatory issues.

At the 'Build Your Business (BYB)' forum will be a networking platform for buyers-sellers of various organizations.

This year will feature a 'Poster Session for Leader Prospects' in conjunction with the International Conference. About 50 path breaking ideas will be presented by young researchers covering a wide gamut of topics focusing on Health Biotechnology; Cell Biology (as this is the basic science for all Biotechnology platforms); Agri biotech and Bio Informatics (for its Commercial Implication). The research papers/ posters are chosen from hundreds of abstracts received from young researchers, scientists & technocrats working in Universities, R&D labs, various government departments or private sectors. The best three abstracts will be felicitated at the 'Bio Awards Nite'.

This premier show is an excellent platform for the big industries as well starts-ups to showcase their technologies, products, research and services. The trade show is a magnanimous platform for outsourcing, collaborations and tie-ups.

Bangalore Bio 2006 will also focus on addressing the issues related to the talent requirement in the industry and opportunities available in the various fields of biotechnology. It will also emphasize on the Integration of the Biotech Industry and the academia on a common platform and also share best HR practices in the industry. The Bio Awards Nite recognises the contribution of eminent Padma Awardees for their outstanding achievements in the field of science & technology. Awards for best stalls will be presented to the exhibitors for innovative stall designs and creative display of products. This year the best entries in poster session will also be awarded. The Awards Nite will conclude with a gala celebration, entertainment and dinner

The CEO Conclave is an exclusive industry get-together of distinguished people from the world of biotech with diverse backgrounds (CEOs, R&D heads, Policy Makers, VCs, Investment Bankers, etc). On this occasion "Vision talk" will be delivered by Dr. R. A. Mashelkar, Director General, CSIR and Secretary, DSIR. The evening will conclude with an industry networking dinner.
