Bangalore gears up to 'Think BIG'at Bangalore Bio 2007 in June

Government of Karnataka promoted Bangalore Bio 2007, which is the seventh edition of the flagship biotech event organized by the Karnataka Vision Group on Biotechnology, will be held from June 7 to 9, 2007 at the Bangalore International Exhibition Center on Tumkur Road.

This year, the event is set to be larger than its predecessors, and the theme is 'Think BIG _Think Biotechnology, Think Innovation and Think Growth'. The main Conference will focus on "Accelerating Industry Growth through Integrated Innovation".

Bangalore Bio is the undisputed unique platform for bringing together national and international participants from the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, educational and financial sectors to interact, network and showcase innovations in products and services, to transform concepts into markets, explore investments and business opportunities through its trade show, international conference, business forum, CEO Conclave, poster session, career forum and the newly added Industry visits.

Karnataka Government's IT, BT, science and technology secretary, M N Vidyashankar said, "The Biotech industry in India today seeks innovative strategies in every aspect of business to meet the demands of a changing world and forge a place for itself in the global market. That's why we have chosen the theme Think BIG. This we believe will attract larger participation from the International community".

Chairperson of Karnataka Vision group on Biotechnology and chairman and managing director of Biocon India Ltd Dr Kiran Mazumdar Shaw said, "Our endeavour is always to make it 'Big' in the global biotech arena. For more than two decades we have strived hard and the results are there for everybody to see. To meet the ever-growing demand of biotech sector, we have been building a knowledgeable and highly skilled workforce. The eagerness of young generation to get into this sector has enthused the industry to strive for more. If we have to move forward, we have to 'Think Big' further. This positive and definitive approach along with available talented human resource pool would attract investments in biotechnology sector in Bangalore."

"The conference will focus on cutting edge research and innovative product development, biotechnology applications for drug development, healthcare trends, IPR issues, patentability of new inventions and granting of data exclusivity, regulatory issues and their impact on industry growth, financing innovations and growth opportunities in biotechnology and Bioinformatics and computer applications in Biotechnology.

The exclusive Build Your Business (BYB) Forum will be the ideal platform to explore business opportunities, collaborations, investments, marketing, trade, research process outsourcing, etc. Last year over 400 one-to-one business meetings were facilitated during the trade show.

For the second time in a row, June 9th has been dedicated as Agribiotech Day at Bangalore Bio 2007 to showcase India's experience and progress in agribiotechnology. The sessions will address various key issues like agribiotechnology trends: from Green Revolution to Gene Revolution, public perception of agribiotechnology, challenges of commercialising plant biotechnology products, workable, transparent and science-based regulations for agricultural biotechnology.

The CEO Conclave will witnesses a high power meeting point of various professionals with key industry stalwart delivering the 'Vision Talk' at the Conclave.

This year too, Bangalore Bio will host the Poster Session in conjunction with the International Conference. The objective is to create an exclusive opportunity for young researchers, scientists and technocrats working in Universities, R&D labs, various government departments or private sector to share their innovations and research projects in the areas of Biotechnology, Agriculture, Environment and Health Care and interact with industry top honchos and Indian and global venture capitalists. Posters will be selected based on originality, innovative approach, new ideas, commercial potential, etc.

In conjunction with the conference, industry visits are being organized for the interested delegates on first-come-first-serve basis. The delegates will be taken to two core sectors of biotechnology - bio Pharma and Agri bio. The industry visit would include company presentation, management (general and specific techniques), innovation, business processes, good manufacturing practices, health and safety and more.

Bangalore Bio 2006 witnessed over 72 national and international speakers, 600 conference delegates, 140 exhibitors, 20,000 business visitors from over 15 countries and from various states of India. The sixth edition of the Bangalore-Bio attracted large delegations from leading biotech countries including France, Germany, Holland, UK, etc. This year, the participation is expected to be much larger.
