Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital executed a keyhole surgery method using a technique referred to as the bipolar fixation to bring in a relief to a chronic shoulder dislocation patient.

The surgical intervention was undertaken by Dr Hemanth Kumar Reddy, head of department, shoulder and arthroscopic surgery from Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital, after an after investigation carried out using an MRI and C-T scan.

The28-year old patient Girish underwent severe trauma for 8 years because of a shoulder dislocation. It was a team of experts from the Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital led by Dr Reddy who undertook the challenge of relieving Girish from the severe pain that he had faced for years and infuse mobility into his shoulder joints.

"As the patient had major bone damages due to multiple dislocations in the shoulder he was operated using an arthroscopic procedure. The shoulder was fixed appropriately across angles. In earlier days, open surgery with bone transfers were done which restricted the movement of shoulder but arthroscopic fixation makes the shoulder stable without limiting any movements. This procedure reduces the chances of re-dislocation in young active people, who are operated with anterior fixation alone, " said Dr Reddy.

Due to inadequate assistance to the problem and incomplete cure to the dislocated shoulder joint, the patient experienced severe pain . In fact, the injury persisted even after his initial treatment causing multiple dislocations in almost every movement.

The patient was discharged from the hospital on the same day of the surgery, later was given rehabilitation for couple of months. He also undertook intense physiotherapy. This got improvement in his joints and  a large reduction in the pain. He is even able to sleep in any position without worrying about any sort of dislocation.
