Bio Asia 2006 draws over 500 participants from 33 countries

The third edition of Bio Asia, which was held at Hyderabad from February 9-11, 2006 attracted over 500 delegates, 58 sponsors and exhibitors from 33 countries. The summit has bridged the Asian and global biotech communities.

Dr Anward Nasim, president of Federation of Asian Biotech Associations (FABA) commenting on the growing co-operation among Asian biotech countries, said, "Bio Asia 2006 has played a significant role in creating a platform for Asian biotech companies to interact and collaborate. The formation of FABA has brought India and Pakistan close in the area of biotechnology."

Eminent scientists and business leaders from diverse backgrounds presented and exchanged views on issues such as bio-entrepreneurship, clinical trials, investment opportunities in biotechnology and venture funding, leveraging logistics to enhance supply chain management in pharmaceuticals, bio-cluster development in India.

Prof Guntaka Rama Reddy, Department of Molecular Sciences, College of Medicine, University of Tennessee Health Science Centre, Memphis was conferred the Genome Valley Excellence Award for his outstanding contribution to the field of biotechnology.

Lakshmi Parthasarathy, prinicipal secretary, Ministry of Industries, Government of AP, announced that the fourth edition of Bio Asia will be held from February 15-17, 2007.
