Bio Rad Laboratories has joined the hands with Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), to cater cost effective solutions for the Indian biotechnology and biopharma industry. As a part of initiate Bio Rad has organised two day workshop on "Challenges and Solution in modern Chromatographic Separation" in Mumbai.
Speaking at the workshop, Prof Arvind Lali said, "A facility has been set up at ICT, Mumbai to provide "separation solution", both in part and full, to the rapidly growing Indian biopharma industry. Technical expertise at ICT, combined with the wide product support from Bio Rad is expected to provide the 'missing link' between bench scale technologies and successful commercial ventures, through cost effective separation solutions using modern equipment and technology".
Speaking with Pharmabiz, senior scientist Dr Ashwin Gajra of Invitrogen Bioscience India Pvt, Ltd said that the product quality is influencing the process, and many companies' just wants their results soon. Because of the lack of understanding of the technology, many companies are avoiding chromatography technique. "To remain in the competitive environment, Indian companies should step up their investment and time, as this technique requires more time for the final outcome", he added.
"Broad objectivity of the initiative is to develop and enhance the science of chromatographic separations and generate manpower expertise for the Indian bio pharma industry. It is also aimed at providing an equipped laboratory facility where development work can be carried out to assist the industry in their separation problems, said Himanshu, division manager, Life Sciences, Bio Rad.
Chromatography technology is a powerful method and offers a great reproducibility and consistency in both analytical and production level. It is also cost effective and taking lesser time as compare to parallel techniques. When it will used effectively, it can help an industry to have cost effective production by increasing yield and quality of final product. "This technique has a great significance in bio-molecules separations and purification and is also effective in clinical diagnostics," said Lali.
Chromatography is used as a vital tool at various stages from R&D to production in labs or organizations, which are involved in R&D, quality assurance and controls manufacturing. It is one of the most trusted and established techniques in new drug production and research. Bio Rad offers a wide range of resins media, lab scale system and production scale systems.
