BioAsia 2009 to be held in Hyderabad from Feb 2-4, 2009

The Federation of Asian Biotech Associations (FABA) is conducting its sixth consecutive edition of the event - BioAsia 2009 - in Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) from February 2-4, 2009. The HICC is South Asia's first truly world-class convention centre located in Hyderabad. The conference aims to provide an interdisciplinary forum for discussing new approaches in the field of biotechnology, integrating innovative developments with engineering applications, and converting the technologies into industrial products.

Indian biotech industry has emerged as the producer of novel and proprietary biotech products through specialized human resource, internationally benchmarked infrastructure and national biotech strategy.

Genome Valley, Hyderabad, housing a large number of companies and institutions working in the diverse areas viz. Bioagri, nutraceutical, biopharmaceuticals, bioinformatics, herbal products and bio suppliers, has become the largest biotech hub in India.

Plenary lectures will be focused on bio-entrepreneurship and IPR; vaccine development, innovative strategies; emerging areas of biotechnology-siRNA, miRNA & nanobiotechnologies; drug discovery: novel strategies; biosafety & ethical issues.

A platform will exchange views on the opportunities and challenges related to the Indian biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry from the perspective of senior management, investment consultants and entrepreneurs in this field. This meet also offers an ideal networking opportunity with potential investors, venture capital firms and licensing executives.

A visit to biotech parks situated at Genome Valley will be arranged for those who register early for BioAsia 2009. No separate registration fee will be charged for this session.

BioAsia 2009 invites proposals from young scientists and students who are pursuing their studies/research in any of the areas of biotech/life sciences. Ten among the proposals received shall be invited to demonstrate their exhibits at the conference venue. One of the best chosen innovations shall be awarded 'BioAsia Innovation Award-2009'.

Students/scientists (either individual or in groups) working in any of the institute (academic/research/industry) and who are below the age of 35 years (must not have crossed 35 years as on 31st January, 2009) and who have created a product of applied value, which can capture the eyes of entrepreneurs/venture capital investment are eligible to participate. The contest is open to all the participants from all the member countries of Federation of Asian Biotech Association (FABA).
