Southern States of India are attracting majority of biotech investments and enterprises. Of the eight biotech SEZs that have either received formal or in-principle approvals from the Board of Approvals (BoA) on SEZs across the country, seven are from the four Southern States of India.
This is in addition to many biotech companies already operating in the four states. These developments besides bringing huge investments in the region are also to generate significant employment opportunities in the field. Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh are becoming preferred destinations for biotech investments.
Biocon has earlier obtained formal approval to set up a biotech SEZ in Bangalore in 36 hectares. Jubilant Organosys has received an in-principle approval for a BT SEZ in Mysore in about 11 hectares.
