Care Hospital, a leading Hyderabad based Hospital chain, has chalked out Rs 200 crore expansion plan for setting up two new hospitals and creating additional infrastructure. The expansion is likely to be executed by mid of 2008. The National Accredited Testing, Medical Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) will accredit the existing hospital and it is progressing towards National Accreditation Board for Hospitals (NABH).
Speaking to Pharmabiz, Dr B Soma Raju, chairman and managing director said, "We are setting up two new hospitals one each in Bhubhanesar and Surat. These two hospitals will start functioning by the end of December 2007. The company's further expansion of the installation of equipments and training centre will be completed by mid 2008.We are creating new infrastructure by adding high-tech equipments and a training centre. This will consolidate and establish us as one of the leading and cost effective healthcare institutes that understands the needs of our patients".
The hospital has recently introduced dual-source CT technology for cardiac and other advanced applications, advanced live 3-D echocardiography, cochlear implants in ENT, DBS techniques for Parkinson's disease in neurology, computer-aided joint replacement, robotic surgical applications for valve surgery and robotic applications for prostrate and other abdominal surgery.
The Care Hospital has 10 branches across India and has a keen interest in the research field of epidemiology, basic sciences, clinical sciences and technology development. At present the hospital has a strength of 300 medical staff and 4000 non-medical staff. It has catered to nearly 2.5 lakh out patient visits and 35,000 admissions during the last year. More than 3000 cardiac and 5000 non-cardiac operations and 9000 catheterisation procedures were performed last year. At times the hospital has subsidised costs ranging from 25 per cent to 100 per cent over regular costs for the benefit of the poor.
The hospital also has education as the key integrated activity right from its foundation. Care Foundation, a Care group entity with practical training in Care Hospitals, administers all the educational activities. It has graduate, post-graduate, and post-doctoral education and training programmes in medical, nursing, paramedical, and managerial segments. Most of the programmes are under the guidance of various recognized bodies like National Board of Examination for Medical Courses, Nursing Council of India, Netaji Subhashchandra Bose Open University, Kolkata, IGNOU, Delhi, International Medical Universities for graduate medical programme etc.
Care is also planning to enter into an MoU with University of Hyderabad to collaborate in establishing a national institute for health education and translational research. It is exploring collaboration with international medical universities to innovate in medical education.
Care Hospital, which started as a heart institute with 100 beds in Hyderabad, has grown across the country providing high quality multi-specialty services with over 1000 beds today. The hospital has presence in Hyderabad (4 units), Vijayawada, and Visakapatnam in the state of Andhra Pradesh. It is expanding its presence through a chain of hospitals. It has already commenced operations in Nagpur, Pune, and Raipur. It is exploring another three states for its expansions in the short term.
