CAS Medical Systems, Inc. has acquired the BiliBottoms phototherapy diaper line from Patricia Millner, the developer of the product.

Under the agreement of the sale CAS assumes full responsibility for all future production and sale of the product including patent rights. Ms. Millner is the director of Nursing at Penn State Children's Hospital, Hershey, PA., the company reported.

The BiliBottoms diaper is a patented, light permeable design that combines a maximum exposure of the skin surface to phototherapy with the benefits of using a diaper. The design utilizes a latex free non-woven front sheet and clear poly back sheet with a super absorbent core padding.

Maximum exposure of skin surface to phototherapy lights allows a faster reduction of bilirubin levels and shortens treatment time.

"We are committed to offering products that bring value to the NICU, while improving the standard of care, and help to make a nurses time more productive when caring for the baby. The addition of the BiliBottoms is an excellent fit and a natural extension of our neonatal product line," says Louis P. Scheps, president and CEO of CAS Medical Systems.

The acquisition of BiliBottoms further strengthens CAS' position in the neonatal supplies marketplace. CAS developed the first blood pressure cuff designed specifically for infants and continues as an innovator in hydrogel-based neonatal electrodes.
