The Mumbai-based Charak Pharma has entered the Kenyan market. Three months back the company has started marketing of all its products in Kenya through its distributors.

"It is one of the growing markets in Africa. The Indian population is high in Kenya comparing with other African countries and the regulatory norms are easy in Kenya. We started marketing all our products in Kenya through our distributor three months back. We expect annual sale of 3 crore from the Kenyan market," Pulin Shroff, managing director, Charak Pharma Pvt Ltd told Pharmabiz.

Meanwhile, the Rs 110-crore ayurvedic drug firm has started talks with various companies including domestic companies for setting up marketing JV in US for a slew of over-the-counter products. There is improvement in talks but nothing has been finalised, according to Pulin Shroff.

Earlier, as Pharmabiz had reported, Charak Healthcare tied up with the Russian company to market Kofol cough syrup, Hyponidd-the anti-diabetic tablets and Livomin tablets for liver disorders.

Charak had also inked a five-year marketing alliance with Novartis for the promotion of Hormotone, Livovet and Milchey.

Charak is also expanding its ayurveda clinics business in the country by establishing new clinics in the northern states. The clinics are mainly aimed at the patients with chronic diseases like asthma, arthritis, paralysis, depression etc. Presently, out of its four ayurveda clinics in India, two are in Mumbai and one each in Rajasthan and Karnataka.
