CII-GWULS to conduct IPR Summit-2006 from Jan 28-Feb 1, '06

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in association with George Washington University Law School (GWULS) is organising a series of International IPR Conferences and Moot Court in Delhi, Bangalore and Hyderabad.

The summit will have a unique combination of eminent IPR professionals from the US, Europe and Asia representing industry, academic institutes, law firms and judges who have dealt with landmark cases in Intellectual Property Rights.

The objectives of the IPR Summit-2006 is to foster partnership between the US, European and Asian industry leaders for collaborative projects in IPR, develop mutual cooperation with the Indian judicial and administrative systems for IPR enforcement, disseminate international best practices in IP protection and enforcement.

Moot Court will be held in Delhi and Bangalore on 28th and 29th January 2006, respectively. An international conference on IPR will be held at Hotel ITC Windsor Manor Sheraton, Bangalore on January 30th and 31st and an international conference on IP litigation will be held at ITC Hotel Kakatiya Sheraton and Towers, Hyderabad on February 1.

During 2004, Dean Roger Trangsrud of GWULS approved the India project with the objective to create interactions between leading US, European, Asian and Indian academics, industry leaders, lawyers, judges and policymakers in the field of intellectual property (IP).

Professor Martin Adelman, director of the India project states, "One of the goals of the project is to work with Indian judges and ensure enforcement of patent laws. One must have good laws but it is more important to enforce them."

Eminent academicians in IPR who are to take part in the summit include professor Frederick Lawrence, dean, GWULS; Prof. Martin J Adelman , director of the India project, GWULS; Prof. Susan Karamanian, associate dean for International and Comparative Legal Studies, GWULS; Prof. Eliora Ron, Tel-Aviv University; Prof. Ted L Rothstein, GWULS; Prof. Ananda Chakrabarty, University of Illinois.

The judges dealing with IP Litigation who will take part in the summit and Moot Court include Hugh Laddie, former chief patent Judge, UK; Judge Randall R Rader, Court of Appeals of the Federal Circuit, US; Judge Dr Peter Meier-Beck, patent senate, German Supreme Court; Judge Dalia Dorner, Israeli Supreme Court; Judge Barbara Rothstein, director of the Federal Judicial Centre; Judge Ronald Whyte, Northern District of CA; Judge Michael Fysh, patent judge, UK.
