The Confederation of Indian Industry (NR) is organizing Emerge 2003, a conclave on emerging technologies on December 11, 12 in New Delhi. The conclave would have an exclusive conference on genomics.
The conference would examine the consequences of human genome mapping on the Indian pharma industry, and the impact of gene identification and isolation on drug discovery. The defining role of bioinformatics in the race to discover new molecules and drug delivery systems would be another area of focus it is learnt.
The conference would review the scope of genome research in neuro-degenerative and genetic disorders, nutri-genomics, population genomics and proteomics, which have a major role to play towards a healthier society. The prevailing R&D situation in India, and the potential of the Indian pharma and biotech industry to leverage emerging advancements and discoveries, are also on the agenda.
Special sessions on human genome mapping implications, implications of genome research, genomics & the pharma industry, scope of bioinformatics and Indian R&D situation in genomics are to be part of the programme. The conference is to be attended by chief technology officers, strategy planners & decision makers, venture capitalists CEOs marketing heads, researchers, scientists etc.
