For the first time in the history of the pharmaceutical industry in India, the so far fragmented small-scale drug manufacturers from all the states are meeting together to discuss their grievances and seek remedial measures.

Under the banner of the recently formed Confederation of Indian Pharmaceutical Industries (CIPI), representatives of pharmaceutical manufacturers associations from various states are meeting in New Delhi on October 11, it is learnt.

The meet, which will discuss various issues faced by small-scale pharmaceutical drug manufacturing firms, is likely to be attended by two to three members from various PMA units.

Most importantly, a 20-member delegation representing various states and industry captains are planning to meet the Union Health Minister Sushma Swaraj within a couple of days, seeking an extension to Schedule M deadline.

The industry hopes that they could convince the Health Minister on the need for extending the Schedule M deadline, and get a favourable decision in this regard. CIPI is planning to present her a detailed picture of the financial commitment involved, practical difficulties in implementing the Schedule M norms before the year end deadline, and suggestions on their part to comply with the quality standards, top level CIPI sources informed Pharmabiz.com.

CIPI is also planning to confirm participation of the Union Health Minister in the proposed national seminar on 50 years contribution of SSI pharmaceutical units in India, said sources.
