Concept bags API contract worth Rs. 40cr from Russia

Mumbai-based Concept Pharmaceuticals Ltd has bagged contract from a Russian company for the supply of ampicillin sodium and cefotaxim to Russia.

As per the contract, in two years the company is expected to supply 200 tonnes of ampicillin sodium and 13 tonnes of cefotaxim to the Russian market, said A.B. Gupta, chairman & managing director, Concept Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

Ampicillin sodium is priced at about $ 47 per kg and cefotaxim is priced at $ 145 per kg. The contract is valued at Rs. 40 crore, revealed Gupta.

Concept Pharmaceuticals already has three manufacturing facilities for bulk drugs and formulations at Chikalthana and Chittegaon (Aurangabad), and Birganj (Nepal). The company has presence in anti-TB, gastrointestinal, NSAIDS, herbal medicine, anti-bacterials, anti-fungals, CVS, anti-inflammatory products and animal health. It is also a major manufacturer of beta lactum antibiotics like ampicillin, amoxycillin, cloxacillin, cephalexin, 7-adca, and 6-apa, vitamins and bulk actives.

Concept Pharma recently bagged contracts worth $ 2 million (combined) for the supply of formulations to Costa Rica in Latin America and some of the French speaking African countries including Ivory Coast and Senegal.

"We are in the final stages of negotiations with a Nigerian company for the supply of veterinary products to Nigeria," revealed Gupta.

For the year ended March 31, 2004 the Concept group achieved a sales of Rs. 120 crore with the bottomline stands at Rs. 9 crore.
