Conference on 'Impact of BT on Human Healthcare' at Kolkata on April 5-6
The Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata is conducting a National Conference on 'Impact of Biotechnology on the Development of Human Health Care System' on April 5 and 6, 2006 at Kolkata. Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) are co-organising the event.
The major objective of the conference is to deliberate on the role of biotechnology on human health care systems with reference to microbial and animal cell culture for the production of pharmaceuticals, diseases with their cause and cure, drug design and delivery, stem cell research and engineering. It is very much desired that there will be exchange of ideas and thoughts, analysis of current practices, achievements and bottlenecks in the implementation of biotechnological processes.
The conference consists of invited lectures from eminent scientists and researchers from industries, R&D laboratories and academic institutions. The participants include the faculty members of educational institutions, scientists from research organizations and the students who want to make a career in the area of biotechnology as process engineers, researchers and entrepreneurs. Besides, there also will be a panel discussion by renowned experts on biotechnology on the topic "Manpower development for biotech industries" which will emphasize the curriculum of the course and the identification of research areas for future product development etc.
A report of the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) reveals that the present Indian biotech market at Rs 1500 crore is likely to jump to a height of Rs 20,700 crore by 2010. Furthermore, the global biotechnology market is around $350 billion of which India's share is about 2.5 billion.
