Wipro’s x73 Manager USB Reference System was recently awarded Global Certification by Continua Health Alliance, a non-profit, collaborative industry organisation dedicated to defining technology standards specifically for healthcare solutions. Wipro becomes the first Healthcare IT Services organisation to be certified for IEEE 11073 (x73) based software reference system for five certified device classes.

The reference system supports blood pressure monitors, pulse oximeters, weighing scales, thermometers and glucometers. This solution will enable and simplify the needs of clinical diagnostic applications to collect vital medical data from homecare devices and bed-side monitors through application programming interfaces (API’s) thereby forming a critical enabler for the fast growing remote patient monitoring system, home healthcare and e-health markets.

Continua Health Alliance is a collaborative industry organisation dedicated to defining technology standards specifically for healthcare solutions. The Alliance will establish technical design guidelines to provide manufacturers the information needed to develop products such as interoperable sensors, telehealth platforms, and health and wellness services. Products made under Continua Health Alliance guidelines will provide consumers with increased assurance of interoperability between devices, enabling them to share information with care givers and service providers more easily.

”Continua’s certification of the Wipro’s x73 USB Reference System adds another solution to the growing ecosystem of healthcare devices and solutions,” said Chuck Parker, executive director, Continua Health Alliance. “Interoperability is vital in the development of an ecosystem of connected healthcare devices. The Wipro software tool kit will support the connectivity of many current and future Continua CertifiedTM devices, and will be helpful in the collection and transfer of medical data.”

“It is a moment of immense pride for Wipro because apart from the certification, the tool kit has also been chosen to be a part of the Continua reference design underlining the quality and reliability of the solution,” said Manimaran Rajakannu, general manager, Medical Devices business of Wipro Technologies. “Our solution is both transport as well as platform agnostic. It goes beyond USB and includes Bluetooth over HDP, and is capable of running on Embedded Linux, Android, Blackberry and other mobile platforms in addition to windows platform. This will act as a catalyst in our endeavour to provide faster solutions to our customers in the patient monitoring segment,” he added.
