Datex-Ohmeda launches S/5TM Avance Carestation
Helsinki, Finland | Tuesday, May 27, 2003, 08:00 Hrs  [IST]

Instrumentarium Corporation's Datex-Ohmeda Division will present a wide range of products for the perioperative care process at Euroanesthesia 2003 in Glasgow, UK, May 31 - June 3. In the spotlight will be the new S/5TM Avance Carestation, which was developed in close continuous collaboration with clinicians.

The S/5 Avance Carestation is a compact, integrated solution, which combines Datex-Ohmeda's advanced anesthesia delivery and anesthesia patient monitoring with Deio care information management.

"At Datex-Ohmeda we take pride in our collaborative efforts with clinicians to develop patient care solutions for today's complex clinical environment. Our cooperation allowed us to create a new carestation that supports spontaneously breathing patients and interfaces with numerous ergonomic solutions", says Lori Cross, President of Datex-Ohmeda U.S. "Our Advanced Breathing System (ABS) is a key component of the S/5 Avance Carestation, which helps clinicians increase patient safety and provides lower circuit volumes and reduced maintenance. The S/5 Avance Carestation is an innovative perioperative solution that offers clinicians intuitive patient care options. We recognize that making our carestations easy to use is one of today's most important goals".

The S/5 Avance Carestation provides sophisticated ventilation capabilities with the 7900 SmartVent Ventilator. Using a similar gas delivery approach to that found in most critical care ventilators, the SmartVent helps clinicians meet the needs of a wide range of patients. With increasing use of laryngeal mask airways (LMA) and spontaneous breathing modes, the SmartVent supports the patient's natural respiration. Expanded clinical capabilities for spontaneously breathing patients include Synchronized Intermittent Mandatory Ventilation (SIMV) and PSVPro (Pressure Support Ventilation with an apnea backup mode). Pediatric patients, patients with an LMA and patients who cannot tolerate certain anesthetic agents will benefit from the use of these modes.

The S/5 Avance Carestation is setting a standard for electronic anesthesia gas mixing systems by offering a 500-millisecond mixer response time, even during dramatic flow changes. The mixer delivers fresh gas directly to the inspiratory port on demand, so fresh gas and agent are not wasted, helping clinicians control expenses while facilitating low-flow clinical practices. Dual-flow sensing technology ensures safe operation as gas flow is checked 200 times per second.

Clinicians will also benefit from the unique ergonomic advantages the S/5 Avance Carestation offers. Consistent menus, quick key actions and alarm management minimize the need for training and reduce complexity during critical and non-critical events. The S/5 Avance Carestation offers one-switch power-up of elements and flexibility for different display options for monitoring hemodynamic and respiratory data on full-color displays.

Datex-Ohmeda is helping clinicians build the optimal carestation for everything from routine surgery to the most advanced operations, offering advantages that make a difference in clinical practice.
