Deepak Medical Foundation (DMF) as part of its sexual health awareness programme for prevention of AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases will start campaigning against fake doctors and drug companies who falsely propagate treatments and medicines for curing weakness and impotency relating the same with `semen-loss' through masturbation and nocturnal emission by which encouraging serious concerns among the young men.

The Foundation in association with Deepak Charitable Trust (DCT) has been conducting sexual health awareness programmes in and around Vadodara, in Gujarat. As part of this Sexual Health Project, the Foundation conducted studies to know more about the concerns of young men related to semen loss.

The programme, which initiated group meetings and other interactive sessions with more than 400 young men in this area were indicative of concerns among youth relating to semen loss by masturbation.

According to DMF findings, these concerns among young men often led them towards high-risk behavior and unsafe sex with multiple partners instead of resorting to masturbation, a safe sexual practice.

Speaking to pharmabiz.com about the project's aim and message, Aruna Lakhani, chief coordinator, DFM and DCT, said that the young men, because of their wrong beliefs about masturbation, are forced to indulge in unsafe sex with prostitutes and many-a-time in heinous sexual acts.

"Now we want to target the quacks and the drug companies who propagate this belief among the people to promote their products and clinics," said Lakhani. She added that there are doctors who exaggerate the 'adverse' effects of masturbation exploiting the patient's concern. Even there are drug companies who promote their products by advertising about semen loss and subsequent weakness and male impotency.

According to Dr Ketan Gandhi, project officer, Sexual Health Project, this kind of misguiding massages from doctors and drug companies will boost the belief of the young men who is not aware of the fact that the semen is continuously produced in a healthy body so there is no need to worry that it will get emptied by masturbation or nocturnal emission.

Dr. Gandhi pointed out that from the interactive sessions with young men he found that most of them believed that nocturnal emission is a disease and the quantity of semen-loss through nocturnal emission and masturbation is far more than the semen-loss in sexual interaction with woman.
