DPST and ICT organise pharma alumni meet

The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technology (DPST) and Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) (formerly UDCT) jointly conducted a seminar on ‘Entrepreneurship: The excitement and the tribulations’ on 30th November 2010, to mark their first pharma alumni meet. The DPST is over 60 years old and has so far graduated a large number of alumni. The meet helped in bringing together the alumni from different parts of the world.
The highlight of the seminar was the faculty, who were all alumni entrepreneurs from the 1960 to 2007 batches which included first and second generation entrepreneurs. The formal function was graced by luminaries like Padma Vibhushan professor M M Sharma, Dr A V Rama Rao and Dr Kris Iyer. The Head of DPST, professor Padma V Devarajan presented the DPST journey, from the days of first head professor H R Nanji, professor M L Khorana, Dr M R Baichwal, professor S K Pradhan, professor V M Kulkarni to professor K G Akamanachi.

The growth of the department from a division in UDCT under Mumbai University, to a department under ICT (deemed university), and the research and accomplishments of faculty and students was also highlighted. The DPST has the proud privilege of being a UGC Centre of Advanced Studies (UGC–CAS) director, ICT, professor G D Yadav presented the grand vision and lofty dreams of ICT, and the role of DPST in that vision. Professor Sharma, Dr Rao and Dr Iyer shared nostalgic experiences and lent their suggestions for  the path forward. Retired faculty and staff of the DPST were felicitated and recognised for their contributions.
