Dr. Kovoor plans to set up 200 bed neuro speciality hospital in Kerala

Dr.George Kovoor, one among the leading neuro surgeons in the country, is setting up a super specialty hospital at Thrissur in Kerala, envisaged as the largest of its kind exclusive neuro-care facility in South India.

The hospital, which would be named as Kovoor Institute of Neuro Sciences (KINS), coming up in a phased manner in association with the Trichur Heart Hospital within a few months, would be a 200-bedded specialty hospital with advanced infrastructure matching world standards. Spread on four floors and six wings, the institute would be headed by a team of eight specialist doctors and the required support staff.

Leading neuro-care specialists from different parts of the world would act as visiting specialists, besides offering online consultancy services. Initially, the hospital would attend to 30-35 cases per day, informed Dr.George Kovoor, chairman and director and the main promoter of KINS, in an exclusive with Pharmabiz.

Envisaged to offer all the advanced neuro care surgeries under one roof, KINS would set up facilities to perform complex neuro surgeries like computer-assisted, non-invasive, minimally invasive, neuro rehabilitation and other neurological and investigative diagnostic procedures, besides facilities to conduct cingulotomies, dectotomies and DREZ lesions for various neurological disorders.

Further KINS would set up advanced machines like CRW model CT guided frame to take biopsy of brain stem and deep seated lesions, drain large heamatomas and abscess etc., Radio Frequency Lesion Generator (RFLG) machine to diagnose and cure Trigemnal Neuralgias and other pain syndromes.

KINS, now functioning in a small way and utilizing the facilities of the Heart Hospital, already conducts MRI assisted Functional Stereo Tactic Surgery, now conducted in Kerala only at the Sri Chithrathirunal Institute, Thiruvananthapuram, said Dr.George Kovoor, who is also the Chief Neurosurgeon and consultant in Spine and Trauma surgery for the last seven years at the Heart Hospital.

The main aim of the hospital would be to offer cost-effective advanced neuro-care treatment to needy poor patients in the country, as well as patients from abroad, informed Dr.Kovoor, who spearheaded to establish three major neuro-care health centres in Kerala, during his illustrious career spanning two decades.
