Dr. Kshirsagar, Dean of KEM Hospital nominated for B C Roy National Award
Noted clinician and current Dean of the Seth G S Medical College and KEM Hospital, Dr. Nilima A Kshirsagar has been selected for the prestigious B C Roy National Award for the year 2002 in the category of 'Recognition of the best talents in encouraging the development of specialties in different branches of sciences'.
A letter to this effect was delivered by the management committee of the Dr. B.C. Roy National Award Fund registered under the Societies Registration Act, XXI of 1860, Medical Council of India, New Delhi here last fortnight. The citation would include cash prize and a Medal.
Dr. Kshirsagar has been in the field of clinical pharmacology for the past three decades and has been dedicating her professional career extensively to the establishment and growth of clinical pharmacology in the country. She has investigated many new drugs developed by the Government of India, Central Drug Research Institute and Regional Research Laboratories and is also well known for her pioneering work in setting up the Liposome Clinical Pharmacology Centre with funding from the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India.
Dr Kshirsagar is the member of the team that set up the first clinical pharmacology ward in the country. She also set up the first Therapeutic Drug Monitoring Centre in 1989, Drug Controller General of India Centre for Adverse Drug Reactions Monitoring, 1989, Liposome Clinical Pharmacology Centre, 1990, Clinical Pharmacology Unit for Malaria in Department of clinical Pharmacology, 1995, World Health Organisation Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring Centre, 1996 and Clinical Pharmacological Unit and ward for infectious diseases, 1999 at KEM Hospital.
