Dr L H Hiranandani Hospital to host India's First IBOM 2012 on March 9 in Mumbai

Dr L H Hiranandani Hospital, Powai, Mumbai has taken initiative to promote new age healthcare by hosting India's First International Biologic Orthopaedic Meet (IBOM 2012) on March 9 in Mumbai.

This conference will be organised in collaboration with Hiranandani Orthopaedic Medical Education (HOME), the orthopaedic research division of the Hiranandani Hospital and the Biological Orthopaedic Society, USA.

The objective behind this initiative is to create awareness on biological orthopaedic therapy which is fast becoming a very popular treatment option in orthopaedics and sports medicine across the world.

This programme will offer a platform to share and discuss developments in the orthopaedic world with eminent community. IBOM will serve as a resource pool of prominent doctors from across the globe for advanced treatment options provided to orthopaedics for best patient care.

Dr Sujit Chatterjee, CEO, Dr L H Hiranandani Hospital said, “This distinct initiative aims to highlight the advances in ortho biological treatments and make them available extensively in our country. With high profile professionals coming together to share their expertise, this platform will provide an opportunity for doctors to interact and gain maximum knowledge on the developments within the scope of orthopaedics and sports medicine.”

Commenting on this initiative, Dr Vijay Shetty, course chairman, IBOM 2012 stated, “Biological Orthopaedic therapy is becoming the most popular treatment option in Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine worldwide. A number of options including platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, autologus chondrocyte implantation (ACI) and stem cell therapy are the treatments available for orthopaedic surgeons today. However, this therapy is still in it’s infancy in India. Through IBOM 2012 we are aiming to create awareness by sharing the learning’s and disseminating this significant information to the orthopaedic community at large.”

Sports Medicine is a sub-speciality of Orthopaedic Surgery that aims at evaluating an individual’s sports capabilities. It analysis the strengths and weaknesses of an athlete or a sports person and offer solutions accordingly.

The prominent national faculty includes Sanjeev Jain, Suvin Shetty, Ashok Johari, Ananth Joshi, Dinshaw Pardiwala, Nicholas Antao and Mandeep Dhillon. International faculty includes Richard Villar from Cambridge, Allan Mishra from San Francisco, Yong Saw from Kuala Lumpur, Nicola Maffulli and Vikas Khanduja from London.

Dr L H Hiranandani Hospital, the first NABH accredited multi-specialty hospital in Mumbai is a 240 bed multi-specialty hospital.
