Dr Chigurupati Jairam, Executive Vice-President of Dr Reddy's Laboratories, who has been heading the company's biotechnology division, has resigned. He was also the Managing Director of the biotechnology division called Czenovus, a subsidiary of Dr. Reddy's, besides heading the emerging Strategic Business Unit (SBU).

Confirming the resignation, Dr Jairam told Pharmabiz.com that he was with the Hyderabad-based pharmaceutical major for more than six years and was leaving the organisation to take care of his own business. He had started a biotech company of his own, Credence Laboratories, in Hyderabad, recently, but did not have the time to develop the unit. He said he was about 40 years old and it was the right time to pursue something of his own. Being an American citizen, he would be starting a business and research unit in the US, in addition to his Credence Laboratories in Hyderabad. An MBA from Cornell University, he had a company of his own in the US before joining Dr Reddy's.

At Dr Reddy's, he learnt many things and worked in several areas like biotechnology, which is his first love, oncology, critical care, diagnostics, and international branded formulations marketing. It was under the able stewardship of Dr Jairam that Dr Reddy's had launched its first biotech product Grastim, the generic version of Filgrastim, a recombinant protein used in chemotherapy-induced neutropenia and in bone marrow transplantation.
