The drugs seized by the Maharashtra FDA from naturopath Anjali Mukherjee’s clinic were found to be non-spurious and unadulterated after undergoing the ingredient analysis at Maharashtra FDA’s lab in Mumbai. However the raids drew to conclusion that the clinic was using mislabeled drugs without any valid clinical study, a violation of Drugs & Cosmetics Act. Simultaneously FDA raided the Wada factory of Sheetal Remedies, the makers of the pills.

Maharashtra FDA conducted the raids after receiving complaint from K Nalinakshan, former Mumbai municipal commissioner, who suffered ill health and was admitted to the Bombay Hospital after consuming the Ayurvedic pills at Mukherjee’s Andheri clinic.

“Nalinakshan’s illness may not be due to consumption of the pills. However, we are going to file a case against the parties concerned (Sheetal Remedies and Mukherjee) against violation of D&CA,” said a highly placed official with the Maharashtra FDA.

Some of the samples collected from Mukherjee’s Andheri clinic include Triphala Gugul, Medohar Gugul, Shankwati pills, Krumikutar pills, Ampachakwati pills, Husk powder, Arkaliv tablets, and Chandraprabha vati, according to Maharashtra FDA officials.

The drugs seized at Sheetal’s factory is currently undergoing test at Maharashtra FDA’s labs. “D&CA has already been violated. Only after this analysis can we say whether there is also a case of adulteration,” concluded the FDA official.
