As part of the efforts to create awareness on diabetes among the public, the MV Diabetes Specialties Centre (MVDSC) is organizing an exhibition on diabetes from December 18 to 21, 2003 at Raja Muthiah Hall and Rani Meyammal hall at Egmore, Chennai.
The 'Diabetes 2003' was aimed to create more awareness in society about the disease and the need to prevent it at early stages through preventive care and diagnosis, according to Dr. V Mohan, diabetologist and chairman of MVDSC. The exhibition will highlight everything one needs to know on the disease, all under one roof.
As part of Diabetes 2003, diabetes education will be provided to both healthcare professionals and the public through lectures, seminars, quiz programmes, charts, models, audio-video presentation, skits, live demonstrations and other novel methods. Entry is free for the public.
Concurrently with the exhibition, MVDSC is planning to organize a unique diet exhibition, which will help people to source necessary diabetes related products like glucose meters, urine test stripes, pamphlets and books on diet for diabetic patients etc.
Professor V Mohan, renowned diabetologist and Dr. Rema Mohan, ophthalmologist and managing director, started MVDSC at Gopalapuram near Chennai in 1991. In association with the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation (MDRF), MVDSC has set up an exclusive diabetes research centre to undertake advanced research on the disease and its solutions.
The centre is a sentinel site for non-communicable diseases survey of the country, approved by World Health Organisation (WHO) and Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). MVDSC is also an approved centre by the US National Institute of Health (NIH), and the American Diabetes Association for conducting academic courses on diabetes.
