The Christian Medical College, Vellore will conduct the first 'POSNA-POSI Workshop on Paediatric Trauma and Infections' on 7th and 8th February at Vellore.
The international workshop conducted by Paediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA) and Paediatric Orthopaedic Society of India (POSI), the first joint venture by the organisations, will take stock of present scenario of paediatric orthopaedic developments in India and look at how our management could be altered to provide the best acute for our children. The management of paediatric orthopaedic emergency work has improved all over the world, while India still continues to see a sizeable number of cases with delay, neglect and complications due to inadequate management. The workshop is a venture to better the situation, according to the organisers.
Lectures and interactive sessions in the workshop will discuss subjects like fractures in children, fractures of the distal radius and ulna, forearm shaft fractures, fractures/dislocation, radial head and olecranon, supracondylar humerus fractures, lateral condyle fractures early/late, distal femoral and metaphyseal fractures, proximal tibia and tibial eminence, fractures of the tibia in children, immature foot and fractures, dislocations of the ankle, polytrauma in children, massively traumatised limbs in children, C spine fractures in children and late reconstruction case scenarios in trauma care session.
General principles of acute infections, acute septic arthritis and osteomyelitis and its medical management and treatment on chronic infections like tuberculosis of bone and spine, sequelae of hip infections and the complications of the infections will also be discussed in the workshop.
About ten expert articles on paediatric orthopaedic treatment will be presented in the workshop, in which 200 delegates will participate, informed Dr. Thomas Palocaren, lecturer, Department of Orthopaedics Unit 2, CMC Vellore, who is also the organising committee member or the workshop.
