Fortis Healthcare net jumps by 59% in Q3

Fortis Healthcare, with a network of over 8,000 bed capacity across 53 hospitals, has posted strong financial performance during the third quarter ended December 2010 and its consolidated net profit has taken a quantum jumps of 58.7 per cent to Rs.34.50 crore from Rs.21.74 crore in the corresponding period of last year. Its income also increased by 59.9 per cent to Rs.367.02 crore from Rs.229.48 crore. The EBDITA moved up by 105 per cent per cent to Rs.90.79 crore from Rs.44.28 crore. The company is now planning to change its name from Fortis Healthcare Ltd to Fortis Healthcare (India) Ltd.


The company's newly commissioned greenfield hospitals at Shalimar Bagh, New Delhi, Anandpur, Kolkata and Oncology Block at Mulund, Mumbai were formally launched during the quarter and evoked encouraging response from the communities in the respective regions. It launched tow hospitals in Raigarh and Moradabad respectively. It has taken over operations and management of the 100 bed O P Jindal Hospital in Raigrh, Chhattisgarh, a secondary care hospital offering services in ophthalmology, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, ENT, general surgery, orthopaedics and paediatrics, in addition to primary healthcare services. The company also collaborated with Moradabad Charitable Trust for running and managing the 150 bed Vivekanand Hospital in Moradabad.


The company unveiled its plans to set up specialty centres for providing holistic care to people suffering from Diabetes and other chronic metabolic disorders. These centres will be equipped with all facilities for diagnosis, treatment, prevention, education, clinical trials and research about ailments associated with diabetes and endocrinological disorders. The first such centre is under is under advanced stage of commissioning and will be operationalised under the brand 'Fortis C-DOC'.


The oncology programme at Noida was further strengthened with the introduction of bone marrow transplant. Similarly, the offerings in the areas of urology, renal sciences and cardiac sciences were expanded across the network.


For the nine months ended December 2010, Fortis' income increased by 76.1 per cent to Rs.1056 crore from Rs.600 crore in the similar period of last year. Its net profit moved up by 124.7 per cent to Rs.405.07 crore to Rs.317.32 crore. The earnings per share worked out to Rs.2.51 as against Rs.1.70 in the last period.
