Dr R A Mashelkar, DG, CSIR delivering presidential remarks at the NIPER Decade function
A special function in connection with the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research's completion of 10 years was held at the institute campus recently.
The chief guest for the function was Dr R A Mashelkar, director general, CSIR and the Chairman of the Board of Governors of NIPER. Ajay Piramal (CMD, Nicholas Piramal Limited, Mumbai), Dr. Nitya Nand (Ex. director, CDRI, Lucknow), Prof. Harkrishan Singh (member, NIPER BOG) and Dr. Rajinder Kumar (President, Ranbaxy Labs Limited), V.C. Punjab University, Prof. K. N. Pathak, Dr O P Bajpai, Director CSIO attended the meeting.
On this occasion, Dr R A Mashelkar released a 225-page book entitled " A Decade of NIPER" which outlines its growth and activities from 1994 - 2004. In his presidential remarks, Dr. Mashelkar expressed his pleasure on the growth of NIPER in the past decade and said that the future is even more challenging. He said that there is a need to build both ambience and ambition at NIPER so that the institute attracts the best talent from all over the world. The second priority according to him is the role of various institutions in making drugs accessible to the poorer section of the society. He emphasized that Indian institutions and industry have a distinct advantage of the traditional knowledge which will also contribute in achieving the objectives. He congratulated Dr. Kaul, who is due to superannuate later this month, on a long successful innings at NIPER as the Leader.
Welcoming the guests on the occasion Dr. K K Bhutani outlined the programme and expessed greatfulness to Dr C L Kaul for his able and inspiring guidance to NIPER.
Prof. Harkrishan Singh described to the audience the "Conception and Creation of NIPER". Through an illustrative presentation, Prof Singh explained the initiative taken 50 years back in conceiving and creating NIPER.
On this occasion, Dr C L Kaul was presented a memento by Dr Mashelkar as a token of appreciation of his contribution in shaping this institute in a very short period of ten years.
Others including Dr. Nitya Nand, Ajay Piramal, Rajinder Kumar spoke on the occasion.
