GE Healthcare is organizing its second annual Early Health Summit from September 25- 26, 2008 at Taj Residency in Bangalore. The event will highlight the key emerging trends, challenges and opportunities in healthcare. The theme of the summit is 'Imaging and its relevance in India.'

The annual summit reflects the global vision of GE Healthcare, which revolves around its 'Early Health' model of care focused on early diagnosis, pre-symptomatic disease detection and disease prevention.

The focus of the summit will be at early detection of breast cancer, cardiac diseases, rural health, digitization and public private partnerships. It will address the clinical imaging expertise in these areas. There will be presentations, discussions and keynote addresses by industry experts from healthcare industry, government and independent bodies.

"We are in the business of providing healthcare solutions to people that bring about a positive change in their lives. Platforms like Early Health Summit provide us an opportunity to actively engage with media and some of our other key stakeholders, deliberate with them about the urgent healthcare needs of the region and create greater public awareness about the same, stated V Raja, president and CEO, GE Healthcare.

According to the Pricewaterhouse Coopers report, 'Healthcare in India: Emerging market report 2007', the sector in the country is estimated at US$ 40 billion by 2012. Revenues from the healthcare sector account for 5.2 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product, making it the third largest growth segment in India. The rising middle class population of the country, which can now afford quality healthcare, seems to be the biggest contributor to the stellar growth of the sector.

Healthcare providers are facing increasing demand for better quality services from patients and enhanced performance and profitability from shareholders. The spread of awareness about the importance of quality healthcare delivery and increased knowledge about the different disease areas hence becomes vital in helping improve the standard of healthcare in the region, according to the organizers.

GE Healthcare invests about US$1 billion annually in global research and development to bring to market innovative tools that can potentially help healthcare professionals diagnose disease at an earlier stage, which ultimately benefits the patient. The medical technologies from the company include imaging, patient monitoring systems, performance improvement, drug discovery, and biopharmaceutical manufacturing technologies which provide clinicians new ways to predict, diagnose, inform, treat and monitor disease.

GE Healthcare is a US$17 billion unit of General Electric Company and has a personnel strength of over 46,000.
