GE’s India R&D centre bags 'Excellent Energy Efficient Unit' award

GE’s multidisciplinary unit, John F Welch Technology Centre, Bangalore has been conferred with the 'Excellent Energy Efficient Unit' award during a recently concluded ‘National Award for Excellence in Energy Management 2009’ organized by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in Chennai. While engineers and technologists at the centre work towards developing energy efficient products for GE customers, they have also taken upon themselves in contributing to the environment through effective usage of energy and water.

The award also reinforces GE’s ‘ecomagination’ commitment to build innovative solutions to solve environmental challenges. These include its eco-friendly technologies and products. There are initiatives which also regulate Greenhouse gas emissions per person (5.92MT in 2008) and achieve energy savings as much as 6002 MWh/Y. JFWTC also follows the LEED Gold certified infrastructure growth process in order to support an eco-friendly community.

The efficient use of energy goes beyond reducing operating costs and helps make an important contribution to the mitigation of climate change. Through the implementation of a variety of projects, the company estimates to save Rs 3.5 crore per annum which is 20 per cent of its annual energy cost. The added benefit is the reduction in 6632 MT/annum of GHG emissions.

Dr Ajay Mathur, director general, Bureau of Energy Efficiency gave away the award to the team comprising GV Naveen, Satyamurthy K and Siddanagoud Patil.
